31 Mar Good Days To Transplant This Week
The Almanac Planning Guide says the 3rd and 4th of April are good days for transplanting tomatoes, peppers and other above ground garden crops. Here are some tips for transplanting success
#1-Plant in loosely prepared soil with lots of organic m
atter (i.e ground up leaves, compost, organic fertilizer that can be bought at the store, etc.)
#2-Choose healthy sturdy plants. Make sure leaves do not have spots or look diseased.
#3-Make sure your hole is deep enough that all the roots can be covered and the soil can be pulled around the base of the stem for support.
#4-After planting, water with enough water to moisten the soil, but not enough to wash it away from the base of the plant.
Remember, Early Spring planting may also require plants to be covered on very cool nights. A great way to cover them would be with a plastic container that fits over the plant without crushing it. These simple steps will give you a great head start on early fresh vegetables from your very own garden.
